Evidence for the Christian Faith

by | Apr 21, 2026 | Devotionals

Now if Christ is proclaimed as raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain.”

1 Corinthians 15:12-14 ESV

This week I would encourage you all to listen to the attached YouTube interview. I have not listened to this show before, but this interview was sent to me by a number of you in the church. It’s three hours long and took me most of a week to listen to it all piece by piece, but it’s worth listening to and watching to the end.

The man being interviewed, Dr. Jeremiah Johnson, is an academic, a scientist, a linguist, and on staff as a pastor of apologetics at Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano, TX. He is clearly at the top of his field when it comes to biblical archeology and linguistics. This is the best and most comprehensive interview of this sort I have ever heard. It’s a very gospel-oriented presentation of archeological, historical, and linguistic evidence of the historical nature of Christianity. He especially focuses on the historic reality of the resurrection of Jesus and the trustworthy nature of the Bible.

I have some minor disagreements with some of his later conclusions, but the most interesting point of his presentation that persuaded me related to the Shroud of Turin. He makes a compelling argument that it should not be viewed as a Roman Catholic relic, but as an archeological piece of evidence related to the historic (non-mythological) and bodily resurrection of Jesus from the dead. Throughout this interview Dr. Jeremiah is urging us all to understand that our faith is based on strong historical and archeological evidence. This evidence cannot be ignored or brushed away.

Dr. Jeremiah is being interviewed by Shawn Ryan. Ryan was a navy seal and GRS staff member that now runs this interview YouTube channel. The best part of this dynamic is how Dr. Jeremiah is teaching and appealing to Ryan throughout the interview, as you should if you were talking to a new Christian or unbeliever.
